HEKLA Saunas at Posh Spas
Explore the complete HEKLA home-sauna collection: infrared, indoor traditional, Cube, Barrel and Cabin models, with expert advice from Posh Spas on heaters, siting, electrics, installation and ownership.
The complete range
HEKLA covers compact infrared cabins, authentic indoor traditional saunas and three distinct outdoor styles. The key decision is not simply size: it is where the sauna will live and the type of heat you want to use every week.
Gentle full-spectrum radiant warmth at around 45–60°C. Fast warm-up and a standard 13A connection.
Indoor Finnish-style sauna using a Harvia stove and stones, typically enjoyed around 70–90°C with löyly steam.
Design-led outdoor cabins with extensive glazing and a sculptural modern profile.
Classic thermo-spruce garden saunas with efficient rounded interiors and panoramic rear-window options.
Contemporary black WPC garden saunas with glass fronts, Thermo-Aspen interiors, LED mood lighting and Bluetooth audio.

Infrared explained
HEKLA infrared cabins use full-spectrum emitters to warm the body directly instead of relying on a stove to heat the whole room. Air temperature is typically around 45–60°C, warm-up is much faster than a traditional sauna and the cabin plugs into an ordinary 13A socket.
Shorter wavelengths create fast initial warmth close to the skin.
Mid-range wavelengths contribute to the deeper, even radiant feel.
Longer wavelengths support the sustained whole-body warming effect.
Buying guide
Indoor cabins need a level floor, suitable room and power. Outdoor models need a permanent level base, access for assembly and weather-appropriate electrical planning.
Infrared is gentler, faster and simpler electrically. Traditional is hotter, uses stones and gives the classic Finnish löyly experience.
Outdoor Cube and Barrel models can use convenient Harvia electric heating or the ritual of a Harvia Linear 18 wood burner.
Buy for your normal use, not the maximum number of occasional guests. Smaller cabins usually warm faster and cost less to run.
Manual heating is simple. Digital/Wi-Fi control gives higher-temperature capability on compatible heaters plus remote start, scheduling and monitoring.
Outdoor saunas need a flat, solid base and generally around one metre of clear working space around the structure for assembly.
Heaters & controls
| System | Typical use | Output | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full-spectrum infrared | Infrared 100/130/160 | 1.5–2.4 kW | 13A plug & play; integrated emitters; Wi-Fi/app control on current specification |
| Harvia The Wall | Indoor traditional & Cabin | 6–9 kW | Slim wall-mounted electric heater; traditional stones and löyly; requires qualified electrical installation |
| Harvia Cilindro | Cube & Barrel | 6.8–9 kW | Floor-standing stone column; manual or digital/Wi-Fi options depending configuration |
| Harvia Linear 18 | Outdoor Cube & Barrel | 14.3 kW | Wood-fired alternative for an authentic fire-led ritual; requires correct flue/site planning |
| Harvia Fenix | Compatible electric setups | Control panel | 4.3-inch touchscreen with scheduling, remote control and monitoring through the MyHarvia app |
Materials
Thermo-Aspen is natural aspen modified with heat and steam rather than chemical preservatives. The process improves dimensional stability and moisture resistance while giving the timber its deeper caramel tone. Its low resin content, smooth surface and relatively low heat conductivity make it particularly well suited to benches, backrests and sauna interiors.
Outdoor Barrel models use thermally modified spruce for their structural staves. Cabin models add a low-maintenance black WPC exterior, while Cube models combine thermally modified timber with large areas of insulated glazing.
Installation essentials
Level floor, adequate ventilation/clearances and a route for the flat-pack panels. Infrared uses a standard 13A socket; traditional electric heaters require a dedicated supply installed and certified by a qualified electrician.
Use a flat, solid and permanent base. Concrete is ideal; properly built reinforced paving can also work. Grass, loose gravel and soft ground are not suitable.
Plan a clear route to the site and working room around the footprint. HEKLA guidance recommends about one metre of clear space around outdoor saunas during assembly.
Ownership & running
Running cost is driven by heater output, warm-up time, session length and your electricity tariff. Infrared cabins are the lowest-output option at 1.5–2.4 kW and are ready quickly. Traditional electric cabins use 6–9 kW heaters and typically take around 30–45 minutes to reach bathing temperature. Wood-fired models replace electrical heater demand with logs, but add fuel storage, lighting, ash removal and flue maintenance.
We can calculate an estimated cost per session using your electricity tariff and preferred model before you buy.
Wellbeing
Many people use sauna as a deliberate wind-down routine. Heat followed by cooling can feel deeply relaxing and may support an easier transition into rest.
Warmth increases skin blood flow and can temporarily ease feelings of muscular tension after exercise or a long day.
Heat exposure raises heart rate and widens blood vessels. Long-running Finnish observational studies have found associations between frequent traditional sauna use and several cardiovascular and cognitive outcomes, but these findings do not prove sauna prevents disease.
Hydrate, build up gradually and stop if you feel unwell. Anyone pregnant or with cardiovascular conditions, blood-pressure problems or relevant medication should seek medical advice before changing sauna habits.
Frequently asked
No specialist heater circuit is normally required: the current Infrared 100, 130 and 160 use a standard UK 13A plug. The socket and installation environment still need to be suitable.
HEKLA infrared cabins are typically used around 45–60°C. Traditional saunas are normally enjoyed around 70–90°C, with brief increases in humidity when water is ladled over the stones.
Infrared is ready much faster, commonly around 10–15 minutes. Traditional electric models generally need around 30–45 minutes depending on cabin size, ambient conditions and heater output.
HEKLA outdoor ranges are built for year-round use with thermally modified timber and weather-resistant roof/exterior systems. Correct base preparation and ongoing exterior care remain important.
Many UK garden sauna installations may fall within permitted development, but siting, height, listed status, conservation areas and local restrictions can change the position. Check your local planning authority for your property.
Yes. We can talk through delivery access, base preparation, heater choice and the electrical work you should have arranged so the sauna is ready to use after installation.
